A Local’s Guide to Copper Mountain

November 12, 2024

If you’re planning a day at Copper Mountain, forget the cookie-cutter tourist map. Here’s the local scoop on where to find the best trails and secret powder spots. Discover the perfect post-ski drinks and a few hidden gems too.

Copper is a classic spot in Summit County. Whether you’re tackling double blacks or hanging out with friends, this guide will help you navigate Copper like a pro.

Best Trails for Every Kind of Skier or Rider

Beginner Vibes

If you’re just starting or cruising with new riders, West Village is your go-to zone. Stick to Scooter and Easy Feelin’ for some gentle, scenic laps. The vibe is relaxed, and the terrain’s perfect for building confidence.

Intermediates

Intermediate skiers and riders will feel comfortable on American Flyer and Rosi’s Run. These trails are smooth and wide. They have some nice steep sections to help you push your limits without going all out. Plus, you’ll find some easy tree lines here that’ll keep things interesting.

For the Experts

Head up the Super Bee lift and make your way to Spaulding Bowl for some legit terrain that’ll make you work. Resolution Bowl is also a must for experts, with open lines and powder pockets to explore. On a powder day, make a beeline for these stashes early – locals know they fill up fast.

Secret Powder Stashes

Locals might not love us giving these away, but hey, we’re here to share. For some of Copper’s best hidden powder spots, go into Union Meadows near the Sierra lift. You can also explore the trees between Far West and Loverly.

Want something a little less obvious? Jacque’s Pique offers some tucked-away terrain that tends to hold onto snow longer. Just remember to keep it respectful – stay safe, ride smart, and respect the mountain.

Woodward at Copper

Woodward Mountain Park is more than just a terrain park – it’s Copper’s playground for everyone from groms to pro-level riders. Central Park offers a variety of features, including rails, jumps, and wall rides, while Pipe Dream showcases one of the best superpipes in the country. Want to go big but need a little extra practice? Head inside to the Woodward Barn and try your tricks in the foam pits or bounce on the trampolines.

Après-Ski Done Right

After a day on the slopes, it’s time to refuel. For a laid-back, classic après, grab a seat at JJ’s Tavern in East Village. Great beers, tasty burgers, and a vibe that’s just the right level of rowdy.

If you want a more relaxed time and it’s sunny, find a spot on The Beach. This is Copper’s outdoor plaza near Center Village. You can sit back and watch the last skiers of the day go by. For a full list of Copper's dining options head over to Copper's Dining Overview.

Coffee Stops to Kickstart Your Morning

Fuel up before you hit the slopes! Camp Hale Coffee in Center Village serves up strong brews and quick breakfast bites to help you charge all day. If you want a relaxed spot with true Summit County vibes, visit Sugar Lips Mini Donuts. They offer a sweet treat to help you start your morning right.

Tips for Making the Most of Copper

  1. Go Early: The earlier you get there, the more untouched snow you’ll find and the shorter the lift lines.
  2. Know Your Parking: Free parking at Alpine Lot with a shuttle, or go premium with closer paid options at Union Creek.
  3. Download the Copper App: Track lift wait times and get live snow updates so you’re always one step ahead.

So, if you’re ready to experience Copper Mountain like a true Summit County local, this guide has you covered. Whether you’re searching for steep lines, sweet powder stashes, or the best après hangouts, Copper’s got something for everyone. See you on the mountain!
